Installation, Land of Bali 2012
SomArts in SF I took a month long sabbatical to Bali, Indonesia in 2012. This trip literally changed my perspective on life and transformed me inside out. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I knew it was a whole other world. I felt a huge shift beginning to take place, a spiritual renewal. I was enamored with the tropical lush landscapes, ocean, and the beautiful warm and caring Balinese people. My daughter was with me for the first two weeks and it was such a treat to spend quality time with her. We had a wonderful time exploring and learning about the Balinese culture, the daily offerings, visiting temples, touring, meeting people, walking Monkey Forest, and meeting the artisans in their studio.. After my daughter left for home, I moved into a villa just outside of Ubud. The staff where I stayed were wonderful, and they watched over me and made sure I was safe. I was fortunate to have made a friend named, Mangde, who worked at the villa. He introduced me to the inside world of the locals in his neighborhood. I was invited into his home and met his beautiful wife and daughters. They welcomed me in and I felt like part of the family. Mangde had the staff at the villa dress me in their native ceremonial clothing. He took me to private ceremonies and introduced me to his friends. And I savored every moment I was there through the photographic lense. Installation Dimensions: 10'x12'x4' Paintings, Soft Sculpture Peacocks, textiles, mixed media, flower petal offerings |
