Paintings, The Accident 2010
I was involved in an accident back in 2010. While crossing the street, a pick up truck struck me and I was thrust backwards into the air. The impact was brutal and I landed hard with a thump to my tailbone, right shoulder and back of the head. An ambulance arrived and took me to SF General, where I spent my day being tested. I was released later that afternoon. Although my physical body appeared fine on the outside with some bruising, there was a kaleidoscope of visions going on internally. The healing process was slow and I needed an outlet to release my pain. I found solace through painting, telling my story through my art. Reds, oranges and golds appeared juxtaposed to the darkness that I felt inside. Some of the paintings bubbled out quickly and others oozed out slowly and deliberately, mirroring my present state of being. This work helped me to deal with the pain and my emotional state, assisting me to move through the process. |
